On 11 June, HKD were invited to present an online game for Gamelab as part of Ecsite 2020 called “Lies Wanted” playing with the topic of fake news. Made in conjunction with designers, scientists and educators from Belgium, India, Israel, Italy and the UK.
Extending upon our work developing town-wide games, looking at interactivity and participation beyond traditional museum / gallery / science centre spaces, we developed a game that can be played by anyone with internet access, anywhere around the world, with unusual objects as their inspiration.
Technopolis – a Science Centre in Belgium, Brussels; Dharohar – a Children’s Centre in Udaipur, India; Team Gamelab made up of specialists in the UK, Italy and Israel; and HKD in the UK joined forces to find objects which tested audiences knowledge.
Thrilled to be part of such a global team, we look forward to future collaborations a skill sharing – a continuation of our international work over the last 20 years.
Over 650 international players took part online, on what would have been Ecsite’s 31st edition of the conference, meant to be based in Ljubljana but shifted online as a result of the impact of the Cov-19 virus.
In this new landscape of cultural centres and sites looking to engage audiences beyond their traditional spaces, our ongoing practice in this realm can be applied in many new and positive ways.
